600 Monk/Spirit Bonder?
How does it work?
Just happened to run into the concept on GuildWiki, but after collecting the necessary skills, what was supposed to be a good test in Anvil Rock (where I've farmed minotaurs before with other chars) ended in death within a minute.
The Prot enchants didn't prevent damage fast enough to keep me from dying, and the Smiting enchants didn't do enough damage to kill anything.
This is with Smite/Prot/DF all maxed.
Here's the build I used:
Spell Breaker
Blessed Aura
Protective Spirit
Shield of Absorption
Spirit Bond
Balthazar's Spirit
Retribution
Vital Blessing
Equipped with Kepkhet's Refuge.
Is the 600 Monk just a defunct idea that I wasted time and money on, or am I missing something?

Most people prefer to farm 600/smite. That means you farm with another person who functions as a smiter.

i think you misunderstood the concept of the 600 monk. if you're going to go solo you have to have more damage than retribution or, as you found out, you won't kill a thing. usually there is a second monk or monk hero that carries retribution, holy wrath, vital blessing, etc and the monk that you're running is a tank that aggros everything and keeps himself alive.

As Josh said, I believe you misunderstanding.
600 requires 2 players, 1 600 and 1 smiter.
You also need to be in HM and with the lowest armor rating possible, this is so you take large amounts of damage thus triggering spirit bond to heal you, the damage you take is then reduced by prot spirit to prevent the damage from getting out of hand.
I'd suggest heading over to youtube to get a better grasp of the idea.

are you sure you had AR15 armor? or starter armor? you can't go 600/smite with your maxed armor, because you won't get hit for 60+ dmg for spirit bond to trigger.

Well shoot.
Didn't know about the starter armor/low AR requirement, plus I assumed that any build labeled "farming" automatically meant "solo farming."

You can use a hero as the smiter. I would recommend a mesmer hero with signet of illusions so you can get 16 prot and 16 smite. Otherwise a monk hero with 16 smite 15 prot will work. Make sure you disable the bonds and manually cast them otherwise the hero will remove them.
You only need spell breaker if you will be going against something that will remove you bonds or cast spells you don't feel like dealing with. If you don't need it put in a utility skill like finish him or pain inverter

The 600 monk was originally a solo build when Spirit Bond had no hit counter. You could run a 600 solo build now, but it is much more commonly used in the duo 600/smite team.

yeah, u need two peeps bro ;-) prot spirit keeps dmg limited to around 60 which will always trigger spirit bond, but always be low enough that the dmg is out healed. smiters buffs do dmg to the enemies. TA DA!!!

It doesn't require two people as that is the duel600 smite. This is the 600 smite SB that you can solo with. You need to have shield of judgment to to do damage not spell breaker. This is what you really want.

I tried it works really well.
